KUCHING, Oct 24: Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap presented an allocation of RM40,000 under his Minor Rural Project (MRP) to the school board of SJK Chung Hua Stampin, Sungai Tapang here for upgrading works and organising school activities.
According to a press release issued by Yap today, the RM40,000 comprises a sum of RM30,000 to assist the school in carrying out minor repairs, upgrading works and also for organizing school activities for the benefit of the students.
The other sum of RM10,000 is an allocation to the building fund of the new school building after all the requisite approval from the relevant authorities are obtained.
The cheques were handed over by Yap over to the School Board Chairman, Pui Wen Mei, witnessed by school board members and teachers at the school’s premises.
“Yap requested the school board to use part of the RM30,000 to organise a seminar for their primary six students on critical thinking.
“Critical thinking are essential skills for students entering secondary school where they are taught to question, analyse, interpret, evaluate make a judgment about what they read, hear, say or write.
“With the Sarawak GPS government investing in the digital economy to accelerate socio-economic progress, boosting our students with critical thinking will not only contribute to Sarawak’s development but give our students the necessary skill to navigate an increasingly challenging environment driven by technology.”
The press release noted that during the dialog session with school board members and teachers, Yap had revealed that his RTP funding of RM50,000 for repairs and upgrading of the school’s fencing and construction of a shelter to serve as a waiting area for students waiting to be picked up by their parents have been approved and is scheduled for implementation soon.
“Yap also gave his assurance and commitment that he will continue to financially support and assist the school to organize school programs and activities as well as upgrading unsatisfactory infrastructure for the comfort of both teachers and students of SJK Chung Hua Stampin, Sungai Tapang,” it said. — DayakDaily
