The repairs of the toilet, construction works of the footpath, and other general repairs were completed through a ‘gotong-royong’ by volunteers from the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) Kampung Stutong Melayu.

“Recognising the urgency and pressing nature of the problem, Yap, with the assistance of Shaari, immediately took the initiative to assist the physically handicapped individual by constructing a wheelchair-friendly footpath and repairing his toilet, among other general repairs to his home.

“During the final inspection, Yap was not satisfied with the toilet repairs and requested Sahari to carry out further work on the toilet.

“He also thanked Shaari Mahidi for organising the gotong-royong, as well as all of the volunteers who took part and contributed their time and effort to the event, which demonstrates unity, resilience, compassion, and care by assisting the less fortunate,” read the press release.

PPRMS is a Sarawak government assistance programme of up to RM15,000 to help those who live below the poverty line or come from low-income groups by providing basic facilities and a comfortable residence, giving them new hope for a better quality of life.
