KUCHING, Oct 5: Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap has reminded the government that the younger generation in any society serves as the engine of growth and development.

In a statement issued today, Yap expressed hope that the Sarawak government, working through the relevant ministries, would consistently review existing policies and proactively adopt holistic measures to formulate and implement viable youth development policies, programs, and strategic initiatives.

This, he stressed, is crucial to ensuring that Sarawak attains its envisioned goal of a thriving society driven by data and innovation, where every Sarawakian enjoys economic prosperity, social inclusivity, and a sustainable environment, as outlined in the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030).

Yap made these remarks while officiating the Annual Sports Day of SK Satria Jaya BDC, which took place at Mini Tabuan Stadium on Jalan Stutong on October 4.

During the event, Yap encouraged the Parents-Teachers Association (PTA) to continue organizing the annual sports event, highlighting that students participating in sports learn valuable lessons in discipline.

He noted that children who engage in sports develop an understanding that achieving desired results requires discipline, perseverance, and a commitment to training and following the game plan. These experiences help them acquire the life skills necessary to achieve their goals in life.

“In sports, the physical and social benefits are tremendous, helping to build strong positive character traits. These traits include all the positive values and qualities needed to equip youths and mold them into a vibrant force with the necessary disciplines and skills to assist Sarawak in becoming a developed economy by 2030,” Yap stated.

He commended the school’s PTA for their ongoing initiatives to instill winning attitudes in their students, encouraging them to excel despite challenges and obstacles. — DayakDaily
