Kota Sentosa assemblyman to Kong: Don’t drag me into childish blame game over flyover construction projects

KUCHING, April 6: Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap claims he does not want to be drawn into what he termed to be an “unhealthy childish blame game” with Democratic Action Party Socialist Youth (Dapsy) Kuching chief Michael Kong and hopes the latter understands that issuing press statements will not solve the majority of problems.

Yap made the statement in response to Kong’s recent criticism of the Mile 6 and Mile 7 flyover bridge projects in the media.

ā€œIs Michael Kong’s criticism an admission that Democratic Action Party (DAP) Members of Parliament (MPs) are ineffective as a conduit or channel to the Federal government?”

“Kong should focus less on rhetorics and impress upon the current Stampin MP (Chong Chieng Jen, of whom Kong is of assistant to) to play the latter’s role as an elected representative, among others, to contribute in a positive manner and to represent effectively the constituents of Stampin (which Kota Sentosa is part of),” said Yap.

To Yap, this can be done by putting forward effective questions during question time in Parliament to get proper responses on the steps taken and to be taken on vapours issues involving federal ministries and authorities.

He stated unequivocally that the Mile 6 and Mile 7 flyover bridge projects are part of the Pan-Borneo Highway and are Federal Government projects.

ā€œI have repeatedly raised the issue of the delayed completion of the Mile 6 and Mile 7 flyover bridges with the appropriate authorities and through the proper channels.

ā€œDuring a working visit with our Deputy Premier of Sarawak Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, to the Mile 6 flyover bridge site on April 5, 2022, both Public Works Department (JKR) and the contractor stated that they are committed to completing and opening the Mile 6 and Mile 7 flyovers by the end of June 2022,ā€ he explained.

Yap went on to say that he will not ā€œtaichiā€ (shift the blame), but rather serve as the eyes and ears of the local communities in DUN N12 Kota Sentosa, highlighting and attempting to resolve issues or problems of public interest that affect them.

ā€œI am committed to working efficiently to ensure that people-centric infrastructure projects are completed on time and to the satisfaction of the public.

ā€œI will be fair in my assessment by understanding the problems and attempting to assist (rather than simply criticising and complaining) in mitigating existing problems faced by contractors in order to ensure the smooth implementation and completion of all government projects in DUN N12 Kota Sentosa.

ā€œAs Kota Sentosa assemblyman, I will do my part, and I hope the Member of Parliament (MP) for Stampin will do the same,ā€ Yap stated. ā€” DayakDaily
