KUCHING, Oct 24: The construction of the first phase of the Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) Blue Line in Kota Samarahan, valued at RM568.61 million, is progressing rapidly, with the line expected to commence operations in the fourth quarter of 2025.

According to a TVS news report, Sarawak Metro Sdn Bhd (Sarawak Metro) chief executive officer, Ts Mazli Mustaffa, expressed confidence that the construction work, including the route and physical structures, would be completed within the agreed timeline, allowing Sarawakians to benefit from efficient transportation and logistics services.

Mazli also emphasised the potential of the ART project to streamline logistics and connectivity for major events in the State, including the much-anticipated Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games), which is expected to take place in Sarawak in 2027.

“We will comply with and fully support any decision made by the Sarawak state government. If Sarawak is selected as the host for the 2027 SEA Games, we are ready to play our part in ensuring smooth logistical support,” he said during a media briefing at a Road Safety Awareness Campaign at Kampung Plaie, Kota Samarahan, today.

The 27.6-kilometre Blue Line will connect Rembus Depot directly to Hikmah Exchange, easing commuter access to Kuching city.

Mazli added that ART users will no longer need to worry about traffic congestion, saving both time and transportation costs.

Rembus Depot will also house hydrogen bus services and SEDC Energy Sdn Bhd’s hydrogen production plan, as well as facilities for hydrogen refuelling, a test track, an automatic washing plant, mechanical and infrastructure workshops, and administrative buildings. — DayakDaily
