“I believe much more can be done (to improve the Internet connectivity) especially in areas such as Samarahan and other rural areas.

“I have gathered from the latest information as compared to the national average that the Internet connection in Samarahan is better.

“That is more than 92 per cent as compared to the national average of 84 per cent.

“Nonetheless, if there are any shortcoming, we (federal government) will do our best in the near future,” he said in his reply to a supplementary question from Rubiah on the initiatives by the federal government to provide Internet access to the people especially those in the rural areas and Kota Samarahan.

Muhyiddin said the federal government has allocated more than RM20 billion to improve the Internet connectivity throughout the country especially in the rural areas.

He said more efforts will need to be done including providing Internet connectivity in the rural areas.

Earlier, at the Dewan Rakyat sitting, Rubiah had asked Muhyiddin on what are the measures provided by the federal government to assist the B40 and M40 groups to overcome the economic challenges especially with the rising number of unemployment in the country.

Muhyiddin disclosed that the federal government has announced the economic stimulus packages and approximately RM11 billion has been allocated to assist the B40 and M40 groups.

He added there were more than 53 agencies under the Economic Stimulus Implementation and Coordination Unit (Laksana) that have been tasked to monitor the implementation of the economic stimulus packages announced by the federal government earlier.

Muhyiddin said the federal government is formulating a long-term economic plan to ensure the sustainability of the economy which will be unveiled in the later part of the year. —DayakDaily
