KUCHING, March 7: The Sarawak government has enhanced the Sumbangsih Raya aid package by including kolo mee, following a recommendation by the Premier’s wife, Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang.
Minister of Women, Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Development (KPWK) Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah said the popular Sarawak delicacy is a new addition to the package, which now consists of six items.
“Datin Patinggi (Juma’ani), as per your suggestion, we have included instant kolo mee into the Sumbangsih Raya package this year.
“This brings the total number of items in each package to six,” she said when speaking during the Sumbangsih Raya presentation ceremony held at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here today.
The complete package now includes instant kolo mee, beef serunding, fruit cake, kacang botak, 3-in-1 coffee, and tea.
Fatimah also highlighted that this year marks the 35th edition of the Sumbangsih Raya initiative, which is organised by the Sarawak Women and Family Department.
The programme, aimed at showing appreciation for uniformed personnel on duty during Hari Raya Aidilfitri, has grown significantly over the years.
“From just 2,000 boxes for two agencies in its early years, the initiative has expanded to 12,000 boxes for 11 recipient agencies in 2025.
“This is the third consecutive year that we have maintained this number of aid packages,” she added.
The 12,000 aid boxes will be distributed to personnel across multiple agencies, including Malaysian Armed Forces (4,000 boxes), Royal Malaysia Police (2,400 boxes), Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (1,050 boxes), Fire and Rescue Department (1,550 boxes), Prison Department (450 boxes), Immigration Department (550 boxes), Royal Malaysian Customs Department (750 boxes), Road Transport Department (550 boxes), Civil Defense Force (250 boxes), People’s Volunteer Corps (250 boxes), and Sarawak Security and Enforcement Unit (100 boxes).
Fatimah expressed hope that the aid packages would bring comfort and appreciation to the personnel who are unable to celebrate Hari Raya with their families due to work commitments.
She also acknowledged the collective effort involved in preparing the aid packages. The packaging process took place on March 3 and 4, with a special packaging event held on March 5, during which 4,440 boxes were packed in just over an hour with the help of recipient agency representatives.
