SIBU, Dec 30: A 42-year-old man arrested for brandishing a knife at public members at Jalan Pulau has been charged at the Magistrates’ Court today.
The accused was charged under Section 6 (1) of the Corrosives and Explosive Substance and Offensive Weapon Act 1958 with possessing an offensive weapon.
The section provides an imprisonment term of between five and ten years and shall also be liable to whipping.
No plea was taken from the accused before Subordinate Court Sibu assistant registrar Romme Ahmad Zaidi.
Romme ordered that the accused be remanded until further mention of the case on January 9, 2023.
The accused was detained at about 9pm on Tuesday at Jalan Bukit Assek, where police seized a knife and a motorcycle from him.
The arrest was made after the police detected a 16-second video showing a man riding a motorcycle in Jalan Pulau brandishing a knife at public members. — DayakDaily
