KUCHING, May 1: Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) is being positioned as a key transit hub connecting Russia and India’s Goa, as part of Malaysia’s strategy to develop dual-destination tourism routes in partnership with both countries.

Malaysian Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Dato Sri Tiong King Sing revealed that Malaysia and India are considering the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to work with Russia in formalising cooperation for launching new tourism transit routes.

“This initiative would focus on promoting beach tourism, wellness travel, and cultural heritage experiences,” Tiong shared in a Facebook post following a meeting with Goa’s Minister of Tourism, Rohan A. Khaunte.

Tiong also noted the increasing potential of India’s outbound tourism market, especially with visa-free travel now in place and a new private airport set to open soon in Goa.

“Given India’s rapidly growing population and strong spending power, we can explore how to better leverage existing flight routes to encourage more frequent people-to-people exchanges between our two countries,” he added.

Tiong further announced that Malaysia will host the Malaysia International Tourism Mart (MITM) at the end of this year, aimed at enhancing business-to-business (B2B) partnerships.

“I expressed hope that Goa would lend its full support by encouraging more of its tourism industry players to participate and promote their products and services, achieving a win-win outcome for all,” he emphasised. — DayakDaily
