Kitten saved from fiery death

KUCHING, Nov 2: Firefighter Norhasrita Abdul Manan from Sibu station was hailed as a ‘hero’ in the eyes of a little boy when she managed to save his trapped Persian kitten from a fiery death.

When the child cried and wailed to Norhasrita that his pets were still inside the burning house, she ran back in, hoping to find and rescue them.


DayakDaily managed to speak to Norhasrita, who explained over the phone that the blaze was under control when the child came to her for help.

She immediately enter the house and she spotted a weak Persian kitten on the floor in one of the rooms.

“The house was very dark with thick smoke. I was unable to see properly, but somehow I saw the kitten on the floor. It looked like it was already dead and totally soaked with water.

“I manage to take the kitten out and passed it to the child,” Norhasrita said, adding that she was very happy she could help the boy.

Seven people were left homeless after the fire razed a house at Lorong Permai Timur 17 in Sibu on Friday.

According to state Fire and Rescue department’s operations room, they were notified at 1.57pm and 12 firefighters from Sibu and Sungai Merah stations were dispatched to the scene. The blaze was under control by 3.09pm.

No casualties were reported and checks were underway to determine the cause of fire. — DayakDaily
