KUCHING, July 30: Padungan assemblyman Wong King Wei will continue to serve the people as their representative in promoting cultural heritage and tourism in his constituency despite having left DAP.

“In the near future, I’ll be leaning towards serving the Padungan constituency on other non-political platforms, which the initial thoughts of mine was to serve people in cultural (activities) and promoting tourism,” the former Democratic Action Party (DAP) leader said when he visited business owners along India Street to show his gratitude for their support.

In stating this, he emphasised that Padungan is rich in culture, heritage and delicious local food, and thus, he would get involved in the future in activities to promote local businesses to benefit business owners and committees.

He gave assurance that he would be making more announcements but will not be confined to his 10 years’ tenure as Padungan assemblyman because he would continue to serve the community in other capacities.

“A part of them (successful applications) has been notified to collect the gold card. A small portion has been rejected with reasons and we are still following up on these applications,” he said. — DayakDaily
