KUCHING, April 4: Kampung Binyu Baru, Samarahan is under Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) effective today until April 17.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said it was decided the village would be placed under the EMCO following a risk assessment that was carried out upon the advice of the State Health Department.

“The implementation of EMCO is to facilitate [State Health Department] to conduct detection of cases suspected of Covid-19.

“Therefore, isolation can be carried out as soon as possible to control the transmission of coronavirus in the community,” he said during a press conference to give updates on the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak at the former State Legislative Assembly complex here today.

Kampung Binyu Baru is the focal point for the Kampung Binyu Cluster which was announced yesterday. The cluster stems from a wedding ceremony held at Kampung Binyu Samarahan on March 21 and 22 which as of yesterday caused more than 68 people to be infected with Covid-19.

The cluster came to light after three symptomatic individuals who attended the wedding ceremony tested positive at Kuching and Bintulu health facilities. — DayakDaily
