KUCHING, Sept 12: The Regional Corridor Development Authority (Recoda) will showcase the rich cultural and culinary heritage of the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (Score) at the Nyamai Sarawak Gastronomy Festival 2024-Malaysia Day Edition, taking place at the Sarawak Cultural Village this weekend (Sept 14-15).
In a media release today, Recoda highlighted that vendors at the Iban Longhouse will present a diverse array of delicacies from Score’s various regions, including the Upper Rajang Development Agency (URDA), the Highland Development Agency (HDA), and the Northern Region Development Agency (NRDA).
From the URDA region, Geena’s Kitchen will feature Iban specialties such as Ayam Pansuh, Ikan Jelawat Pansuh, Penyeram, and Kerabu Midin.
Representing the HDA region, Restoran Bahek will serve Orang Ulu dishes, including Pitoh (steamed sticky rice wrapped in leaves), Dinuh (sticky rice fritters with gula apong syrup), Cassava cake, Nuba Laya, and Daun Kesum minced meat chicken.
The NRDA (Limbang and Lawas) region will be represented by Bisaya Kitchen, offering Bisaya dishes like Samcam Daging Kerabau, Sancam Daun Ubi, Tahai Salai, Nobor Lopot, and Penganan Punti, as well as Teratak Lasme, which will highlight Malay cuisine with offerings such as Nasi Goreng Sambal Tahai, Mee Goreng Belutak, Kebab Belutak Roll and Kelupis Tradisi Utara Sarawak.
Additionally, Dapur Melanau from Mukah will present Melanau dishes, including Tumpik Lemantak, Umai Ikan Jaq, Umai Udang, Umai Obor-Obor, and Linut with Sambal Belacan.
Min Catering will also offer traditional Melanau food, featuring Tumpik Sago, Seit Panggang, Linut and Sambal, Pekasam Ikan, and Umai Ikan with Sago.
Recoda chief executive officer Datu Ismawi Ismuni emphasised that the festival is not only a celebration of Sarawak’s diverse food culture but also a platform to promote socio-economic development in the Score region.
He said that several other businesses will join Recoda’s showcase, offering products like pure coconut drinks, Carus pepper, Sarawak-grown chocolate, coffee, ice cream, nuts and teas.
“Recoda is deeply committed to transforming rural Sarawak into an economic powerhouse through various food-related socio-economic development initiatives.
“These efforts include the development of the food basket programme, which features collection processing and packaging centres (CPPC) in Sungai Baji, Sarikei, and Spaoh, Betong,” he said.
The Nyamai Sarawak Gastronomy Festival 2024 will celebrate Sarawak’s rich culinary heritage, bringing together a vibrant array of traditional foods and local delicacies from Malaysia’s largest region. — DayakDaily
