KUCHING, Dec 1: A total of 277 stalls will be made available at the upcoming Kenyalang Chinese New Year Festive Sales 2026, with 106 allocated to shop lot owners and tenants at the Kenyalang Park Commercial Centre and 171 open to the public.

Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said permit applications will open from December 2 to 15, 2025, ahead of the 15-day festive sales running from February 2 to 16, 2026, with application forms available at the MBKS One Stop Service Counter.

“Priority for stall allocation will continue to be given to shop owners and tenants, who may apply for up to two trading spaces each. Permit fees remain unchanged at RM100 per stall for owners or tenants and RM150 for the public,” he said at a press conference at MBKS headquarters today.

Wee described the Kenyalang festive marketplace as one of Kuching’s most enduring Chinese New Year traditions, predating modern malls and remaining a key community focal point.

He added that the annual event supports micro-entrepreneurs, many of whom operate from home and rely on the bazaar to sell baked goods, handicrafts and seasonal items.

“The marketplace helps traders build networks, generate extra income and share their work with the wider community,” he said. — DayakDaily
