MIRI, Dec 5: Some 250 people are expected to attend Persatuan Kayan Sarawak (PKS) Nahah AA branch’s annual dinner cum pre-Christmas gathering at Dynasty Hotel here this Thursday (Dec 6).

Its organising chairman, Laing Uvang, who is also the branch chairman, recently led committee members to call on Telang Usan assemblymen Dennis Ngau to invite him to be the guest-of-honour.

Dennis, who is also Persatuan Kayan Sarawak president, remarked that he was pleased that the relatively small Kayan community had continually sought ways to enhance their unity.

“There are only about 80,000 Kayans in the Orang Ulu community of roughly 300,000 people. Hence, we (Kayans) must uphold unity and seek ways to progress together,” Dennis said.

PKS Nahah AA branch is one of the six Persatuan Kayan Sarawak’s active branches. It has over 200 members and organises events regularly to promote friendship, Kayan cultures and educational excellence.

Laing said the annual dinner cum pre-Christmas gathering was also meant to raise funds for their annual activities.

He revealed that responses to the annual gathering had been on the rise over the years, reflecting great comradeship among the Kayans. — DayakDaily
