Kapitan Cluster, Disso Cluster emerge in Sarawak as daily cases stand at 211 with 1 death

KUCHING, April 8: Sarawak has declared two new Covid-19 clusters dubbed the Jalan Kapitan Cluster in Marudi and Disso Cluster in Saratok along with 211 new cases and one fatality reported in the region today.

Both the Jalan Kapitan Cluster and Disso Cluster recorded one case respectively today.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in its daily report on Covid-19 situation in Sarawak, revealed that Bintulu district topped the new daily infections with 70 cases followed by Sibu (35), Sarikei (21), Miri (19), Kuching (15), Sri Aman (8), Beluru (7), Kapit, Meradong and Limbang (6 each), Samarahan (5), Subis (3), Bau and Marudi (2 each) while Lubok Antu, Julau, Serian, Mukah, Dalat and Tanjung Manis one each.

This thus increased the region’s tally of positive cases to 18,707 and death toll to 117.

The 117th fatality involved Case 15,960 who was an 83-year-old woman admitted to Miri Hospital after experiencing a fever and breathing difficulties.

Her rT-PCR test returned positive for the virus on March 28. The health condition of the deceased, who had existing comorbidities with hypertension, diabetes and dyslipidemia deteriorated and she passed away yesterday (April 7).

On the new 211 cases, SDMC reported that 56 cases were symptomatic while 178 cases consisted of those who were under quarantine at designated facilities, while 131 cases were identified as close contacts to positive cases and 45 cases were linked to existing active clusters.

There were only two imported cases with one case involving a returnee from the United Arab Emirates.

As of today, Sarawak has 44 active clusters and of that, seven clusters registered an increase in positive cases.

They were the Jalan Baji Cluster in Sarikei with 17 cases, Bulatan Aman Cluster in Sibu (11 cases), Tembok Sri Aman Cluster in Sri Aman (6 cases), Jalan Kingsway Cluster in Miri (4 cases), Emperoh Jambu Cluster in Kuching and Sungai Kawi Cluster in Meradong (3 cases each) as well as the Lorong Desa Senadin Cluster in Miri (1 case).

Sarawak also recorded 181 recoveries with 49 patients have been discharged from Sibu Hospital, 34 from Miri Hospital, 31 from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), 27 from Bintulu Hospital, 19 from Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) Serian, eight from Sarikei Hospital, five each from PKRC Kapit and PKRC Sri Aman, two from PKRC Mukah and one from PKRC Betong.

The total number of recoveries in Sarawak has increased to 15,268 or 81.62 per cent of total positive cases so far. — DayakDaily
