Kapit police will not go easy on drug offenders, addicts

KAPIT, April 14: Police here have warned that they would continue to take stern action including charging offenders in court for illegal drug activities.

Kapit District Police chief, DSP Freddy Bian said today that the Anti-Narcotics Department would intensify its efforts under Section 39C of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

On April 13, four persons were sentenced to five years’ jail and a stroke of rotan by the Sessions Court here after they pleaded guilty to drug possession.


Freddy said from January to April 13 this year, nine persons had been slapped with jail sentences ranging between five to seven years and between one to three strokes of the rotan under Section 39C of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug possession.

Thirteen more persons were sentenced to between five to eight months’ imprisonment and fined between RM2,500 to RM5,000 after they pleaded guilty for various offences under Section 12 (2) and 15(1) of the same Act.

Freddy warned that action could also be taken under Section 39C of the Act against any individual who is charged under Section 15(1) of the Act. — DayakDaily
