KUCHING, April 14: A total of 25 young designers participated in a virtual public speaking workshop organised by STIDC on March 12 this year.

Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC) in a statement said the interactive workshop enabled the participants to test their communication skills besides learn to evaluate speeches and practise speech analysis.

The workshop was among its efforts to continuously groom young designers in preparation for them to become furniture designers in the future.

STIDC general manager Hashim Bojet said: “This grooming process is very important for the young designers, as furniture designers, they need to have the skill in presenting and communicating their creative ideas to customers.

“Realising this need, STIDC will continue to develop and organise similar training to our young designers in the future,” he said.

Meanwhile, STIDC said the public speaking workshop was facilitated by Positive Impression’s principal consultant Md Arif Irwani Azahari.

Md Arif is a Distinguished Toastmaster and was once the Toastmaster Past District 87 Governor for Brunei, Indonesia and East Malaysia (2010-2011).

STIDC said Md Arif taught and guided the young designers on how to do proper speech presentation and the designers were also taught on speech evaluation, and impromptu and prepared speeches presentation.

In the meantime, the corporation hoped that the designers will be able to benefit from the skills learnt including public speaking, presentation skills and methods to deal with fear and anxiety when speaking in public. — DayakDaily
