KAPIT, Aug 4: The 100th anniversary celebration of Kapit Peacemaking Agreement will be held in December this year.

Federal Minister of Works and Kapit MP Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the celebration marks 100 years of the treaty between the Ibans and Orang Ulu (Kayan, Kenyah and Kajang) communities which was signed on Nov 16, 1924.

“Fort Sylvia was a witness to the Kapit treaty that year (1924) which recorded the history of the unification of the Dayak community in the Kapit district and marked the end of the ‘ngayau’ (headhunting) tradition.

“Of course, various planning and preparations for the 100th anniversary celebration of the peace treaty needs to be carefully planned,” he said in a Facebook post today.

Earlier, Nanta together with his father and former Kapit MP, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Leonard Linggi Jugah, and Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Native Laws and Customs) Datuk Jefferson Jamit Unyat, attended a meeting to discuss the planning of the celebration. — DayakDaily
