KUCHING, July 2: Kapit MP Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi sees Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s initiative to send Sarawakian students to the UK’s Royal Military Academy Sandhurst as a timely and forward-thinking move which could empower, enrich, and prepare the State’s youth to be well-qualified leaders of the future.
With that, he proposed that it may also be timely to explore reviving the Sarawak Rangers as a specialised internal security corps.
“While talking about training/studying at Sandhurst and, picking up the point mentioned by YAB Premier on the need to look into some security aspects in managing Sarawak, I tend to think that it maybe also timely and much needed to explore the revival of Sarawak Rangers to become the designated Sarawak’s very own internal security Corps,” he said in a Facebook post today.
Nanta, who is also Works Minister, clarified that this proposed security force should not be seen as a rival to the Malaysian Army, but rather as a complementary unit that could work closely with national security forces to safeguard Sarawak’s internal affairs.
Meanwhile, he said the initiative to send Sarawakian students to the UK’s Royal Military Academy Sandhurst presents a rare opportunity for the State’s youth to receive world-class military and leadership training at one of the most prestigious institutions in the world.
“Not only it will create another opportunity and avenue for our Sarawakian students especially in military studies but it can also definitely empower, enrich and prepare our youth to be well qualified leaders of the future.
“Students at The Royal Military Academy Sandhurst do not just learn military theories and strategies, but also on how to become well qualified leaders duly inculcated with cultures of high discipline, integrity, accountability and all the good virtues of leadership.
“Therefore it is timely and appropriate for such a move,” he said. – DayakDaily
