KUCHING, Oct 25: Pesta Song 2026 could help boost local tourism and economic opportunities while giving younger generations a platform to promote the district to wider audiences through digital technology, says Kapit MP Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.

In a Facebook post, Nanta, who also serves as Works Minister, said the festival went beyond water sports competitions to showcase Song’s tourism potential and strengthen community ties.

“The organisation of this festival not only showcases water sports such as powerboat and paddleboat races, but also serves as a platform to uphold cultural heritage, strengthen unity and highlight local tourism and economic potential,” he said.

He said this at the opening ceremony of Pesta Song 2026 at Rumah Robert, Nanga Banjor on Saturday (Oct 24).

The spirit of unity was also reflected in the participation of community leaders in the paddleboat race, which Nanta cited as an example of the cooperation and consensus that should be maintained.

Beyond the festival, he called on younger generations to use their creativity and digital technology to introduce Song’s unique identity to wider audiences, helping more people discover the district’s cultural heritage and potential.

He expressed appreciation to Tuai Rumah Robert, the organising committee and the Song community for their commitment and cooperation in making the festival a success. — DayakDaily
