KUCHING, Dec 8: The services of the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) in the Song district have received a significant boost following the handover of new movable assets aimed at strengthening emergency response capabilities, particularly in rural communities.
In a Facebook post, Kapit MP Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi said he also informed the federal Minister of Housing and Local Government, Nga Kor Ming, to draw attention to the challenges faced by fire teams in rural areas.
“We do not want the recent longhouse fire incident to happen again—especially when outdated firefighting equipment prevented the longhouse from being saved.
“As elected representatives, whatever assistance we can provide, we will provide,” he said during the handover ceremony held at the Song District Office meeting room on Sunday (Dec 7).
Among the equipment handed out were water pump engines and water hoses to help improve the preparedness of the Song Fire and Rescue team.
“I hope that this asset handover will strengthen community safety in the Song district.
“Together, we will continue working to ensure that every village, longhouse and family remains protected,” said Nanta, who is also the Works Minister.
On Sept 28, a 29-door longhouse— Rumah Austin Ikew at Jalan Song Temalat, Nanga Sungai Sipan, Song—was destroyed in a fire. — DayakDaily
