KUCHING, Oct 13: After the blaze that destroyed the 29-door Rumah Liun in Nanga Pangai, Sungai Ibau, Kapit MP Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi stepped in with RM1,000 in cash aid per door, while the government pledged RM70,000 per door to help residents rebuild their homes.
“I was supposed to have another commitment in Kuala Lumpur and had planned to return there last Sunday afternoon after visiting and meeting the fire victims of Rumah Austin Ekau in Nanga Sipan, Song.
“However, I was shocked by yet another fire disaster that occurred in my constituency—this time involving Rumah Liun in Nanga Pangai, Sungai Ibau, Kapit, which was destroyed in a blaze on Sunday morning,” he said in a Facebook post.
The works minister expressed how heartbreaking it was to see another longhouse destroyed, as well as sympathy towards the residents who have lost their homes.
“In facing this trial, I hope the residents of Rumah Liun will remain patient and resilient and make the best plans to rebuild a new home that is safer and stronger.
“The government and I, as the member of Parliament for Kapit, together with the assemblyman (for Bukit Goram, Datuk Jefferson Jamit Unyat, will assist to the best of our ability,” he said, adding that Katibas assemblyman Lidam Assan was also present.
In addition, said Nanta, several government agencies, departments, and nearby longhouse residents also came forward to offer help and contributions to ease the burden of the fire victims. — DayakDaily
