Kapit man feared drowned after jumping into river at Nanga Encherimen

The victim is believed to have jumped into the water from the jetty.

Kapit, Jan 6: A 27-year-old man is feared drowned after he was believed to have dived into a river at Nanga Encherimen, Batang Rajang near here early this morning.

Kapit District Police Chief, DSP Freddy Bian said his department received a report regarding the incident at 9.41am.

“Based on the police report made by the victim’s brother, Robin Etok, 27, jumped into the river around 1.30am,” he said when contacted.


According to him, a relative had informed the victim’s brother about the incident around 2.30am .

Following the incident, the longhouse residents and family members of the victims had tried to conduct a search but to no avail.

The cause of the victim’s behavior has not been ascertained but the victim’s family members found that the victim was behaving strangely and had been talking to himself in the last two days.

A search and rescue (SAR) operation was carried out by three policemen and three members of the Malaysian Civil Defense Force (APM Kapit) after report was made.

“But the shallow water level of the river has made search operations difficult,” Freddy said.

The search and rescue (SAR) operation was postponed at 4.00pm due to the poor weather condition. .

SAR operations will resume tomorrow morning. — DayakDaily
