KUCHING, Oct 25: A total of RM280,000 in Minor Rural Project (MRP) funds has been distributed to 13 areas in Kapit to support the work of their respective Village Security and Development Committees (JKKKs).
Works Minister and Kapit MP Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi expressed hope that the allocation would benefit local communities.
“I hope this allocation will be put to the best possible use for the well-being of the people and the development of local communities,” he said in a Facebook post today.
At the same event, Nanta presented service extension certificates and new appointment letters to 82 community leaders in the Bukit Goram constituency.
He emphasised the responsibilities carried by community leaders, including ketua kaum and tuai rumah, in serving as the link between the government and longhouse communities.
“The positions of ketua kaum and tuai rumah carry great responsibility and require commitment and integrity,” he said.
As the main link between the government and longhouse communities, they play an important role in communicating government policies and official information, as well as conveying residents’ concerns to the relevant authorities.
Nanta congratulated newly appointed community leaders and those whose service had been extended, while expressing appreciation to those who had completed their service for their contributions to the community.
He also thanked all parties involved in facilitating the distribution of the assistance and contributions, expressing hope that they would continue working together for Kapit’s development. — DayakDaily
