Kapit Boat tragedy: Body of last victim found near Sungai Seputin

KUCHING, March 15: The body of the last victim in the Kapit boat tragedy in Batang Baleh was found near the Sungai Seputin area.

According to a report from the Bomba Sarawak operations centre, the search and rescue (SAR) team was informed of the discovery by members of the public at 11.30am.


Following that, the SAR team went to the reported location and confirmed that a body was found in the river.

Based on the clothing worn by the victim, the body was confirmed to be 28-year-old Constable (PC) Iskandar Ibrahim.

The deceased’s body was later handed over to the police for further action, and the operation ended at 12pm.

In the incident around 5pm on March 7, five men, including two policemen, were on their way to Nanga Tulie Camp carrying explosives on a 30-horsepower fibre boat.

Only one man, Moses Ngui, 47, was rescued by the public after the boat capsized and sank in Batang Baleh.

The first body, identified as the boat’s operator, Jack Balan, 45, was found near Lanang Bridge on March 9, followed by the second body belonging to Sergeant Jonathan Lambert, 51, in front of the Kapit express boat terminal on the same day.

The body of the third victim, Emerson John James Naim, 47, was found in Batang Lebaan on March 10. — DayakDaily
