KUCHING, Aug 30: Kantin at The Granary in Kuching has reached a significant milestone by being nominated for the prestigious World Culinary Awards’ Best Restaurant in Malaysia 2024.
According to a press release, as Sarawak’s sole representative, Kantin will compete against eight other renowned establishments, including Michelin two-star restaurants from Kuala Lumpur, bringing Sarawak’s culinary excellence to the national spotlight.
Among the esteemed nominees are:
- Dewakan: A Michelin two-star fine dining restaurant and three-time award winner.
- Flour Restaurant: Known for its modern fine Indian cuisine with French influences.
- Fuego: A Spanish restaurant and rooftop bar.
- Hard Rock Cafe: Famous for its burgers and rock-n-roll ambience.
- Marble 8: A Michelin Select premier steakhouse specialising in dry-aged beef.
- Marini’s on 57: An ultra-chic Italian restaurant and whisky lounge.
- Nobu: Renowned for its Japanese-Peruvian cuisine.
- The Ame Souer: Celebrated for its 18th-century Renaissance design and syphon coffee.
“This nomination is a significant achievement for Kantin and a proud moment for Sarawak.
“It not only highlights the culinary prowess of Sarawak but also sets the stage for Kantin’s expansion into Kuala Lumpur,” read the release.
In a recent visit to the Sarawak Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, the Kantin team received valuable guidance and encouragement.
Abdul Karim emphasised that the nomination itself is a significant honour, regardless of the final result, and highlighted the pride it brings to Sarawak.
Voting for the World Culinary Awards is currently open to the public, including culinary professionals, media personnel, and customers, and will continue until Aug 30.
