KUCHING, May 30: Work on the proposed 100.9km Kanowit-Song-Kapit road is progressing as scheduled, with the state Public Works Department (JKR) estimating that the Ngemah-Temalat road link will be completed by August next year.
JKR said the physical progress of the remaining 9.6km of R3 standard road with a 100m span bridge at Sungai Sebuloh was at 39.73 per cent.
“By then, the whole road network to Kapit will be connected. At the moment, the road is only accessible from Kanowit to Ngemah.
“The ongoing 9.6km Ngemah-Temalat link is not ready to be opened for traffic as the road construction is still almost halfway and unsafe to be used by the public,” the department said in a statement today.
JKR said once completed, this road would be connected to the tar-sealed road of Jalan Song/Sipang/SK Temalat and, thus, to Kapit.
JKR added that the completion of this road “shall give a huge positive impact to the people not only in Kapit but also to the people of Song, Kanowit and, most importantly, to the people of Sarawak, in terms of development and economy. — DayakDaily
