KUCHING, Sept 13: Two men were charged in the Magistrate’s Court in Sibu on Friday (Sept 12) with the attempted murder of another man in a shooting incident at the Jalan Penyangkai Majau-Kanowit junction on Aug 24.
According to Bernama, 33-year-old Lionel Kho Kwong Teck was charged with attempted murder for discharging a firearm at the victim at approximately 5.20pm on Aug 24 at the Jalan Penyangkai Majau–Kanowit junction in Kanowit.
He was charged under Section 307 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to 10 years and a fine, and if injury is caused, imprisonment of up to 20 years.
Meanwhile, Wong Sing Dieng, 51, was charged with abetting Kho in committing the offence and faces a similar charge under Section 307 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 109.
In a separate case, Wong was charged with self-administering dangerous drugs—amphetamine and methamphetamine—at the Sungai Merah Police Station in Jalan Wawasan, Sibu, at around 11am on June 2.
Under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, read with Section 39C(2), the charge carries a penalty of seven to 13 years’ imprisonment and three to six strokes of the cane.
No pleas were recorded from the accused.
Magistrate Oon Kork Chern, who presided over the cases, fixed Sept 23 for further mention.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Nuralisa Natasha Nazrulzam appeared for the prosecution, while both accused were unrepresented. — DayakDaily
