KANOWIT, June 15: A chef lost RM14,369 in a tax arrears scam.
The victim, 51, was at his home in Taman Kanowit on June 4 when he received a call from a woman who identified herself as an officer from the Inland Revenue Department in Perak.
He was told by the woman that he had tax arrears and that his name is also being used for money laundering activity.
Following that the victim was told to reveal his bank account details allegedly for investigation purposes.
He was later shocked to find that RM14,369 had been transferred out to an account belonging to another person.
Kanowit district police chief, DSP Tega Bilong when contacted confirmed the case.
He said the victim had lodged a police report.
The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating. — DayakDaily
