KUCHING, Sept 13: Kampung Telagus in Serian was highlighted by Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah as one of the two areas that are in need of water supply.

During his road trip along the Pan Borneo Highway in conjunction with ‘Kembara Kenali Borneo’ royal tour, he noted that the rural folk are still in need of basic facilities and thus calling for the Federal and State governments to play a more effective role in solving the problem.

He understands that Sarawak is the biggest State and it would need a big allocation for roads, houses, bridges and other infrastructural facilities.

“Therefore, I would like to appeal to all the Yang Berhormats (elected representatives) to go and engage with the people; go and meet the people; go and listen to the people – what they need.

“There are two areas that need water supply as soon as possible. If I am not mistaken (its name was) Kampung Telagas (Telagus) located along the highway,” he said when speaking at a State banquet held at Pullman Hotel here last night (Sept 12).

The King further said he had received several letters from the ‘rakyat’ (people) who had requested for his assistance.

“I will read all the letters which were handed to me. We will study it and we will address this to the Federal government as soon as possible. I will work on that, Insya-Allah,” he added.

Amongst those present at the banquet were acting Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar and wife Puan Sri Datin Amar Fatimah Mohamad Iskandar; Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and wife Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang; Deputy Prime Minister Dato Seri Fadillah Yusof and wife Datin Seri Ruziah Mohd Tahir; Dewan Negara president Tan Sri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and wife Puan Sri Fauziah Mohd Sanusi; Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and wife Datuk Dayang Morliah Awang Daud and Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Shahelmey Yahya and wife Datin Dayang Siti Nur Hayyati Ag Mohd Saufi. – DayakDaily
