KUCHING, Nov 15: Meluan assemblyman Rolland Duat Jubin made an emotional appeal during a debate session in the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) today, urging for the swift approval of a maiden petrol station in Julau.
In his heartfelt speech, Rolland highlighted the ongoing plight of the people in his constituency, who have long endured the absence of a local petrol station and currently have to travel to Sibujaya just to refuel their vehicles, incurring unnecessary transportation costs.
At one point, Rolland appeared teary-eyed and his voice trembled as he expressed the weight of his constituents’ struggles, switching to the Iban language to continue his speech impromptu.
“We in Julau still don’t have a petrol station. It has been many years now. I am already in my second term, yet the petrol station has not been built. The people often blame their representatives.
“Therefore, I appeal to the State Planning Authority (SPA) to listen to my request as the Meluan representative so that SPA can approve the site for the petrol station, allowing it to be expedited and bring convenience to the people of Julau,” he said when debating in support of the Supply (2025) Bill 2024 in the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) sitting today.
Rolland revealed that the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDN) approved the new petrol station on Aug 9, 2023.
Thus, he urged the SPA to expedite the resolution of any remaining bureaucratic processes to alleviate the burden on the people of Meluan. — DayakDaily
