MIRI, April 25: A man in his 30s was slapped, beaten and later robbed during two encounters with a group of five assailants, one of whom is a woman, within a span of two hours last night.

According to sources, the episode first unfolded shortly after the man had gone to a market in the city centre at about 9.30pm to collect payment from the traders, as instructed by his employer.

On his way back, he was accosted by five people, who slapped and beat him up before fleeing the scene.

However, when the victim reached an inn at Jalan Nakhoda Gampar, which is about 1km from the market where he had collected money from the traders, the five assailants reappeared and relieved him of all valuables and cash on him, which totalled about RM2,000.

The victim later lodged a report at Miri Central Police Station (CPS). — DayakDaily
