Daulat Tuanku: King, Queen arrive for 2-day visit

KUCHING, April 25: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah are now in town for a two-day official visit.

Upon arrival at the Kuching International Airport, the Majesties were welcomed by Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Raghad Kurdi Taib, as well as Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg and his wife, Datin Patinggi Datuk Amar Jumaa’ni Tun Tuanku Bujang.

State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Speaker Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nasar, state cabinet ministers, heads of government departments and community leaders were also present.

A statement from the Sarawak Public Communication Unit of the Chief Minister’s Department said the King and the Queen were expected to visit nearby tourist spots, namely India Street Pedestrian Mall and Kuching Waterfront.

In the evening, Sultan Abdullah and the Raja Permaisuri Agong will attend a dinner reception with Taib and Raghad at a leading hotel. Abang Johari, Juma’ani, members of the state cabinet and other distinguished guests will be present.

Soon after the dinner, the royal couple will witness the musical water fountain at Kuching Waterfront.

Tomorrow, His Majesty will be accompanied by Taib to attend a briefing at the State Islamic Council and also to present letters of appointment to the council members.

After that, the King will proceed to Masjid Darul Hana to perform Friday prayers with the local Muslim community.

Meanwhile, at the same time, the Queen will attend a separate event at the Old Kuching Courthouse, where she will be accompanied by Juma’ani to visit the Ranee Brooke Museum, a handicraft exhibition and to witness a cooking demonstration on traditional food.
