KUCHING, Feb 11: JobSarawak honoured postgraduate students in recognition of their academic achievements through the presentation of the JobSarawak EmpowerHER STEM Excellence Award at the inaugural Women in STEM Event hosted by Swinburne Sarawak.
In a press release, JobSarawak said the event was held in conjunction with the 10th anniversary of the United Nations’ declaration of International Day of Women and Girls in Science.
The highlight of the event, which aimed to inspire young women to explore careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), was a panel session featuring speakers who have made a name for themselves in STEM— particularly in significant contributions and support of women in the field.
“The panellists shared their personal stories of overcoming obstacles and breaking barriers in their careers, as well as discussing the vital role mentorship and support played in their professional journeys,” said the press release.
Among the speakers were Datin Runi Sylvester Pungga, head of the research and development (R&D) division at the Forestry Department Sarawak; Professor Dr Ida Fatimawati, Deputy Pro Vice-Chancellor of Swinburne Sarawak; and Abdul Najib Azhfar Aini, talent acquisition manager at JobSarawak along with representatives from leading companies like Sarawak Energy, Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation, and LONGI Malaysia.
Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah, Minister for Women, Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Development, was also present.
“Efforts that empower the next generation of leaders, especially those from Sarawak, are more crucial than ever as we move towards a developed State.
“These initiatives align with JobSarawak’s mission to empower job seekers and employers alike in building a stronger, more sustainable and equitable Sarawak through High Precision Data Analytics & AI Models,” said Najib. — DayakDaily
