Jobless man slapped with 6 months’ jail for robbing gold shop of necklaces worth RM40k

KUCHING, March 29: The Magistrate’s Court here sentenced a jobless man to a jail term of six months and a fine of RM2,000 for pretending to be a customer and robbing a gold shop of two gold necklaces worth RM40,000.

Christopher Lee Chun Lung, 32, pleaded guilty to the charge framed under Section 380 of the Penal Code.


Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali accepted his guilty plea and sentenced him to an imprisonment of six months and a fine RM2,000 or in default of a one-month’s jail term.

Lee committed the theft at Tomei Signature, Vivacity Megamall here at about 7.13pm on Feb 28, 2021.

According to the brief facts of the case, Lee went to the said gold shop at Vivacity Megamall and pointed out two gold necklaces, with estimated weight of 79 grams and 67 grams respectively.

Lee then put the two gold necklaces around his neck and fled the gold shop with the two necklaces. The estimated loss of the two gold necklaces was RM40,000. — DayakDaily
