Jobless man sent to prison, whipping for illegal possession of parang

KUCHING, Oct 14: An unemployed man was sentenced in the Sessions Court here today to five years in prison and a stroke of the rotan for unlawful possession of a weapon.

Yusman Yusof pleaded guilty before judge Dayang Ellyn Narisa Abang Ahmad who ordered the jail sentence to run from July 28 as well as to be whipped once.


He admitted to having the parang at a hardware shop in Jalan Sultan Tengah at about 4pm on July 23 this year.

He committed the offence under Section 6(1) of the Corrosive, Explosive and Dangerous Weapons Act 1958.

Deputy public prosecutor Ruthra Raj prosecuted while the accused was unrepresented.— DayakDaily
