Jobless man fined RM2,000 for illegal possession of shotgun, ammunition

KUCHING, April 14: The Magistrate’s Court here has imposed a fine of RM2,000 on a jobless man for possessing a shotgun and 16 bullets without a valid license.

Gibson Rijen, 29, was hit with two charges under Section 8(a) of the Arms Act 1960.

Magistrate Zaiton Anuar fined him RM1,000 or in default one month imprisonment for each charge.

He was found possessing a shotgun bearing serial number 333 and 16 bullets, in front of the Police Training Center in Jalan Puncak Borneo, at about 9.30 am on May 22, 2016.

Section 8(a) of the Arms Act 1960 carries a maximum imprisonment term of 7 years or with a fine not exceeding RM10,000 or with both, upon conviction.
