KUCHING, Aug 24: An unemployed man was fined RM1,500 by the Magistrate’s Court today after pleading guilty to filing a false police report regarding the loss of his vehicle, with the intention of making an insurance claim.
Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali ordered the accused, Ho Seng Ching, 34, to serve two months in prison if he fails to pay the fine.
The accused was charged with filing a false report at Tabuan Jaya Police Station on August 10, 2023, at around 9.30pm.
Based on the case details, the accused reported that his vehicle had gone missing.
A team of police officers subsequently conducted an investigation under Section 379A of the Penal Code.
However, the investigation revealed that the reported vehicle loss was fabricated and had never occurred. In fact, the police report was filed in an attempt to claim insurance compensation.
As a result, the accused was charged and found guilty under Section 182 of the Penal Code, which carries imprisonment for up to six months or a fine of up to RM2,000, or both, upon conviction.
The accused was not represented by a lawyer during the proceedings. Prosecution was carried out by Prosecuting Officer Inspector Mohd Adzmei Ahmad. — DayakDaily
