Jobless man fined for drug possession

KUCHING, May 3: An unemployed man was today fined RM2,500 in default four months’ jail after he pleaded guilty before Magistrate Mohd Syukri Mokhtar for possessing dangerous drugs.

Accused Ray Christson Ibsa Kekek, 22, from RPR Stutong, was charged with possessing 0.99g of Methamphetamine at 2C Lanes, New Village Stutong, on Feb 28 this year at about 12.30pm.

The charge was framed under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and punishable under Subsection 12(3) of the same Act, which carries a fine not exceeding RM100,000 or imprisonment not exceeding 5 years or both, if convicted.

The prosecuting officer was Nelson Ensit, while the accused was not represented.

In an unrelated case, two men were fined RM3,000 in default six months’ imprisonment for possessing 2.24g of Methamphetamine.

They pleaded guilty before Magistrate Mohd Syukri Mokhtar to possessing the drug in a hotel room at Jalan Song Thian Cheok on Feb 28 this year at about 11.50pm.

Accused Ahmad Yazam Redzuan and Mohd Khuzairi Razali were charged under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and punishable under Section 12(3) of the same Act to be read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code.

The prosecuting officer was Nelson Ensit, while both accused were unrepresented. — DayakDaily
