Jobless man claims trial to 2 drug charges

KUCHING, June 14: An unemployed man today pleaded not guilty in the Kuching High Court to two charges of trafficking and possessing cannabis.

Judge Lee Heng Cheong fixed July 24 for pre-trial case management and Nov 11 to 15, 2019, for hearing.


For the first charge, accused Zul Akmal Jamaludin, 27, was allegedly found trafficking 589g of cannabis at a house in RPR Phase 2 Jalan Astana at about 7.15pm on March 19 this year.

This charge was framed under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and punishable under Section 39B(2) of the same Act, which carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.

For the second charge, he was allegedly found possessing 1.05g of cannabis at the same place, at the same time and on the same date.

He was charged under Section 6 of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a fine of not more than RM20,000 or an imprisonment term of not more than 5 years or both, if convicted.

DPP Musli Abdul Hamid prosecuted, while the accused was represented by counsel Osman Ibrahim. — DayakDaily
