KUCHING, June 11: The Sessions Court here today discharged and acquitted an unemployed man after the prosecution failed to prove a prima facie case against him for allegedly possessing scheduled weapons.

Judge Jason Juga let accused Chan Hock Beng, 34, walk free without calling for his defence.

Chan, from Jalan Foochow No.1, was charged under Section 7(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substance and Offences Weapons Act 1958. He was allegedly found to be in possession of a knife and three swords without lawful authority at his house in Jalan Foochow No.1 at about 8.04pm on May 21, 2017.

Section 7(1) provides for an imprisonment term of not less than five years and not more than 10 years upon conviction.
