Jobless man acquitted of car rim theft

KUCHING, Oct 10: The Magistrate’s Court here has acquitted and discharged a jobless man on a charge of stealing a set of car rims.

Magistrate Nuruhuda Mohd Yusof ruled that the prosecution had failed to prove a prima facie case against the accused.


Jonathan Lee Sian Huang was charged under Section 379A of the Penal Code, read with Section 511 of the same Code, for attempting to steal two tyre rims of a Totoya Vios belonging to Limi Salmah Kamarudin at the  Kuching International Airport parking lot, at about 4.20am, on May 11, 2019.

Section 379A of the Penal Code carries an imprisonment term not less than one year and not more than seven years, and a fine, if convicted. Section 511 of the Penal Code, upon conviction, shall not exceed one half of the longest term provided for the offense.
