KUCHING, August 16: Malaysia’s Queen of Comedy Joanne Kam Po Po will be making an appearance in the city next week, promising fresh, new material in a stand-up comedy show.
‘Joanne Kam: La La Lian’ will be held here this Aug 24 at 8pm as part of Kam’s nationwide tour, which began earlier this month in Penang.
Speaking at a press conference at the proposed venue of the Kuching show at Chemsain Auditorium near Rock Road here, Kam said the show would present fresh, new material she had written for the past 10 years in her 26 years of experience in the entertainment industry.
“It will be nothing that I have ever performed before. I will be taking audiences on a whirlwind journey of my personal life as an animated child who grew up to be Malaysia’s longest running stand-up comedian.
“From my nomadic life’s journey from Ipoh, Penang, Johor and eventually Kuala Lumpur in my 26 years of being in this line, I will be sharing stories from my first entry in the dim lit backstage of Haw Par Villa (Singapore) to the blinding light in Boom Boom Room (Kuala Lumpur) to the empowering Super Kam (all femme comedy series) and now with my own nationwide tour,” she said.
Kam is famous for her vibrant and adult oriented stand-up shows in the peninsula and Singapore.
She came to Kuching for the first time during the Sarawak Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA) WAG Music Festival in October 2014.
For the first time, Kam will be exclusively performing in Kuching for the second leg of her nationwide tour after Penang, followed by Kota Kinabalu in Sabah (August 26), Johor and to end in Kuala Lumpur.
