Jln Stephen Yong shooting: Remand order extended for 3 suspects

KUCHING, May 4: The remand order from the police for three suspects to assist in investigations into the shooting case of a 34-year-old man along Jalan Stephen Yong here on Apr 26 has been extended, taking effect today.

The three suspects—age 25, 29, and 39—were previously under a seven-day remand from Apr 28 to May 4.

Two suspects, aged 25 and 39, were remanded for an additional day (until tomorrow), while the 39-year-old suspect was remanded for a further three days.

Russell Lim and Zoe Chan represented them. The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

In the Apr 26 incident, at around 5.30am, two men came to the Batu Kawa police station to inform that a friend of theirs, who was lying in a car, was believed to have been shot while driving along Jalan Stephen Yong.

It was also made known to the media that the two men were with the victim in the car and brought both the car and their friend to the station. The victim was identified as a passenger.

A team from the Padawan district police headquarters and a medical officer were despatched to the scene and confirmed the man’s death. There was a gunshot wound to the victim’s head.

Later, six suspects—including a civil servant—were apprehended at various locations between 4pm and 5.30pm. Police also seized a car and a pistol along with 10 rounds of ammunition during the operation.

A four- and seven-day remand order from April 28 to May 4 was issued by Senior Assistant Registrar Heng Yi Min to assist in the investigation.
