KUCHING, Nov 3: The Jalan Pulau Dudong upgrade project is about to enter the tender stage and is expected to begin next year with a construction period of two years.
In a statement, Dudong assemblyman Dato Seri Tiong King Sing said the approval came in 2023, after a series of discussions with the Public Works Department (JKR) that began in late 2022.
“Following that, design preparations began, and the project is now about to enter the tender stage. I would like to take this opportunity to thank JKR for its review and approval,” he said in a statement.
Tiong, who is also Bintulu MP and Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, urged the relevant authorities to expedite the process and begin work as soon as the tender procedure is completed so that residents can benefit at the earliest possible time.
The 7.5-kilometre-long Jalan Pulau Dudong has recorded floodwaters reaching up to 3.34 metres in the past, with the starting chainage identified as a severe flood-prone area.
This upgrading project aims to raise the road level to address long-standing flood issues while also resolving problems of road subsidence caused by uneven terrain and poor soil conditions.
According to the plan, the minimum road height after upgrading will be 3.88 metres, with sections in flood-prone zones raised up to 14 metres.
Jalan Pulau Dudong connects Jalan Salim/Stabau and Sibu Airport Road, serving as an important transportation route for the local community.
The project will improve mobility and strengthen regional connectivity. Several longhouses are located along this route, and upon completion, the upgraded road is expected to benefit over 300 residents, providing safer and smoother travel, reducing the impact of flooding, and stimulating local economic development. — DayakDaily
