KUCHING, March 12: The road upgrade project along Jalan Matang has reached 43 per cent completion and is on track to be fully completed by August 2026, according to the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR Sarawak).
In a news report by TVS, JKR Sarawak director Dr Cassidy Anak Morris explained that while the road upgrade progress has been somewhat slow, this was due to the challenging process of relocating utility infrastructures such as water pipes and cables to facilitate the upgrading works along the road.
“It is true that this project has been somewhat slow to complete, but it has now reached 43 per cent progress in its implementation,” he said in a recently aired Dialog TVS interview programme.
He noted that the process of relocating the water pipe is quite complicated because it is the main supply line for water to the city of Kuching.
“We need to relocate this utility first before we can build the four-lane road,” he added.
Currently, construction works are still ongoing along Jalan Matang. A new road has also been opened for vehicles to allow for the upgrading work of the old road located adjacent to it. – DayakDaily
