Jiwa Murni roads in Belaga damaged due to landslide, rep calls for swift repair

BELAGA, Jan 22: Belaga assemblyman Datuk Liwan Lagang has urged the contractors to immediately repair two stretches of jiwa murni roads in Nanga Merit here which were damaged due to recent landslide.

According to a report by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), the landslide occurred due to continuous rain on Thursday night (Jan 18).

This has resulted in two damaged roads namely the one linking Rumah Sekapan Piit Junction and Rumah Sekapan Panjang as well as the road connecting Long Dungan Junction and Sungai Dungan Bridge.


Liwan who is the Sarawak Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunication (Telecommunication) went on the ground to inspect the affected sites on Saturday (Jan 20).

“I have directed the contractors to start repair works immediately to prevent the situation from worsening in view of frequent rain.

“I have also requested the Belaga District Office to call the owners of the oil palm plantations whose activities have been disrupted by the landslides,” he said.

Also present were Belaga district officer Bidah Lujah, Belaga district police chief DSP Jimbai Bala and Temenggong Ajang Sirek. – DayakDaily
