KUCHING, Dec 13: Kuching has come alive with dazzling Christmas decorations, spreading joy and excitement as locals gear up to celebrate Christmas Day.
From vibrant lights to intricate nativity displays, the festive atmosphere has transformed streets, malls, and public spaces into a magical holiday wonderland.
Among the city’s key landmarks is the iconic Cat Statue, which has been delightfully transformed into Santa Claus, complete with a red hat, fluffy white beard, and a cheerful outfit.
To enhance the festive ambiance, a beautifully decorated Christmas tree and three large wreaths are placed in front of the statue, completing the enchanting display.
This whimsical scene stands proudly at the entrance to the city’s bustling “Chinatown” on Jalan Padungan, setting the tone for the holiday season with its playful charm.
Despite its festive look, the Cat hopes the people of Kuching won’t mistake it for Santa and start asking for Christmas presents!
Adjacent to the Cat Statue, a towering light fixture shaped like a Christmas tree shines brightly in front of St Peter’s Church, adding a magical touch to the atmosphere.
At Icom Square, a magnificent Christmas tree decorated with shimmering lights and colourful ornaments has become a favourite photo and hangout spot for both locals and tourists.
Beneath the tree, Santa Claus can be seen lounging, as if taking a well-deserved break under the scorching sun.
Nearby, his reindeer, each sporting festive ribbons around their necks, wait patiently for the cue to start delivering Christmas presents. The playful scene adds a touch of humour and charm to the holiday display.
But wait—what’s even stranger is a snowman, also lounging under the sun, with two penguins beside him, tucked under a cute wreath.
Meanwhile, several shopping malls like Plaza Merdeka and tHe Spring are joining in on the fun.
At tHeSpring, Paddington Bear takes centre stage in the holiday decor, welcoming visitors to the ‘Beary Merry Christmas’ market.
Shoppers can explore a delightful array of kiosks offering unique holiday treats, handcrafted gifts, and trendy accessories, with something magical waiting at every turn.
The mall also impresses with a large Christmas tree standing proudly at its entrance, beautifully adorned with red gift boxes and candy canes.
At Saradise Kuching, while the decorations may not be as extravagant, some shops have really gotten creative. One shop features an inflatable Santa Claus hanging off the side of the building!
Another shop boasts a Christmas tree decorated with vibrant butterflies and colorful lights, adding a unique touch to the holiday spirit.
Additionally, at La Promenade Mall, located along the Kuching-Samarahan Expressway, the trees draped in vibrant, colorful lights have become one of the mall’s most popular attractions.
Their dazzling display creates a magical atmosphere, drawing both locals and visitors to admire the festive glow, making it the perfect spot for holiday photos and creating lasting memories. — DayakDaily
