The court heard that the incident occurred at about 11.40pm on Sept 12, 2024, at the couple’s flat in Jalan Manggis here.

During the altercation, the accused allegedly snatched the victim’s mobile phone before punching and kicking her body and slapping her face, causing bruising.

Despite the assault, the victim initially chose not to report the incident.

However, the situation escalated two days later when the accused again attacked his wife and threatened to kill her. Fearing for her safety, the woman fled the house and sought medical treatment before lodging a police report.

Investigations later revealed that the accused had acted out of jealousy after suspecting his wife of having an affair.

Police eventually tracked him down on July 5, 2025, at about 4pm during an Ops Kesan operation. He was found hiding in a room at a flat in Sri Wangi here and was subsequently arrested.

A preliminary urine test conducted at the time of his arrest returned positive for drugs.

For the assault, the accused was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 326A, for voluntarily causing hurt to his wife. He also faced a second charge under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation after threatening to kill the victim.

Earlier in the proceedings, Kamarulariffin had been sentenced to four months’ imprisonment after pleading guilty to drug abuse under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Aidil Akmal Sharidan, while the accused was not represented by a lawyer. — DayakDaily
